The Two Providers in the UAE
The UAE's home internet market operates under a licensed duopoly. e& (formerly Etisalat) and Du are the only two providers offering fixed home broadband. Both operate their own fibre-optic networks and compete on plan tiers, pricing, and bundled services.
Which one you can subscribe to is largely determined by your building — not your preference. Most residential towers and villas are wired by a single provider, so the first step is finding out which provider services your address.

Du — Overview
Du launched in 2007 and has built significant coverage particularly in newer developments, free zones, and business districts. It is the preferred provider in areas like Dubai Internet City, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Business Bay, and many Al Ain and Sharjah developments. Speed Comparison
Both e& and Du use full-fibre infrastructure delivering symmetric or near-symmetric speeds (same upload as download). On a well-maintained plan, either provider can deliver close to the advertised speed directly via a wired connection.
Wi-Fi speeds will always be lower than the wired speed — this is a function of your router hardware and interference, not your ISP. If your speed test results are lower than expected, try a wired speed test before concluding there is a provider issue.

How to Check Real Performance
Advertised speeds are a ceiling, not a guarantee. Real-world performance depends on:
- Your router and its Wi-Fi capabilities
- The building's internal wiring quality
- Time of day (evening peak hours can cause congestion)
- Number of active devices on your network
Run a speed test at different times of day to build a picture of your consistent speeds. If your wired speed is consistently below 80% of the advertised plan speed, contact your provider — they are required to investigate.
Choosing the Right Plan
For a single person or couple who streams video and browses, a 100–200 Mbps plan is more than sufficient. For households with multiple users streaming 4K, gaming, and video calling simultaneously, 500 Mbps or 1 Gbps gives comfortable headroom.
